Sensitive to change
Warmer seas can trigger coral bleaching. Ocean acidification also affects corals’ ability to build skeletons; these pressures differ from local physical damage.
Understand the site
Do not judge an entire reef’s health from one photograph or visit. Ask managers about monitoring, seasons, visitor zones, and current rules.
When you are at sea
Choose an operator that explains conduct before entry. Keep your body and equipment clear of coral; do not collect animals or marine souvenirs.
Support long-term work
Understand restoration alongside habitat protection and monitoring. Read project descriptions from Misool Foundation or Gili Eco Trust to explore different conservation approaches.
