Published focus

Friends of Nature, People and Forests (FNPF) states that its mission is sustainable conservation that integrates the well-being of Indonesia's wildlife, environment and communities. It was founded in 1997 by Balinese veterinarian Dr Bayu Wirayudha and was called Friends of the National Parks Foundation until a name change in 2024. Its website lists five project sites in Indonesia.

Understanding its work

The website describes projects around Tanjung Puting National Park and Lamandau River Wildlife Reserve in Central Kalimantan, a community-supported bird sanctuary on Nusa Penida, a wildlife rescue centre in Tabanan, a sanctuary on the slopes of Mount Batukaru, and its headquarters in Pejeng village, Gianyar. Its work includes rehabilitating and releasing animals such as the Bali starling, tree planting and community programmes.

Its rescue centre page says most animals in its care were confiscated by officials, so protected wildlife should be reported to the local BKSDA.
